2. Shanghai Tower, Shanghai, China – The tallest building in China and second tallest in the world is currently the Shanghai Tower. At 632 meters (2, 073 ft) and 128 floors it’s not even close to the monumental Burj Khalifa, but it’s an amazing engineering achievement nonetheless. Construction of the Shanghai tower began in 2008 and reached its final height in August 2013. The building officially opened on June 2015
3. Makkah Royal Clock Tower Hotel, Saudi Arabia – 601 meters (1, 971 ft) and 120 floors. Also known as Abraj Al Bait, it was completed in 2012 and located in Mecca
4. One World Trade Center, New York, United States – 541.3 meters (1, 776 ft) and 104 floors. Its opening is planned for 2014. Located on the World Trade Center site
5. Taipei 101, Taiwan – 509 meters (1, 670 ft) and 101 floors. Opened in 2004 and located in the city of Taipei. The building ranked officially as the world’s tallest from 2004 until the opening of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai in 2010
6. Shanghai World Financial Center, China – 492 meters (1, 614 ft) and 101 floors. Opened in 2008
7. International Commerce Centre, Hong Kong – 484 meters (1, 588 ft) and 118 floors, it was opened in 2010
8+9. Petronas Towers, Malaysia – 452 meters (1, 483 ft) and 88 floors – those twin towers are considered to be the 7th and 8th tallest buildings in the world. They are located in the city of Kuala Lumpur and were opened in 1998. They were the tallest buildings in the world from 1998 to 2004 until surpassed by Taipei 101, but they remain the tallest twin building in the world
10. Zifeng Tower, China – 450 meters (1, 476 ft) and 89 floors. Opened in 2010
Until June 2015, the Willis Tower in Chicago was the last entry in this list, as number 10. With the opening of the Shanghai Tower, Willis Tower was suppressed from the top 10 list and became number 11, but it is still well deserve to be mentioned here
11. Willis Tower (Formerly Sears Tower), Chicago, United States – 442 meters (1, 450 ft) and 108 floors. It’s the oldest building in this list and was opened in 1973. At the time of its completion in 1973, it was the tallest building in the world, surpassing the World Trade Center towers in New York, and it held this rank for nearly 25 years. The Willis Tower is the second-tallest building in the United States
