Q: What kind of data is necessary for the creation of a new catchment?
A: The GREAT-ER organization welcomes initiatives to develop additional catchments for various regions and countries. The model is in principle applicable to any river catchment provided the GIS and hydrological data are available. You need to collect and convert in pre-defined format: digital river network, market data, digital background maps, hydrological and discharge data. See the chapter Preparation of catchment data sets (page 10-27) of the
GREAT-ER 1.0 Technical Manual
for further information (568 Kb).

Q: How can I add a new catchment?
A: The catchment data sets in GREAT-ER are large and relatively complex structures. Several software tools and packages for creating a catchment have been developed within the GREAT-ER project. These software tools are not included with the installation software but are available separately (please, contact
ECETOC
). See the chapter Preparation of catchment data sets (see page 10-27) of the
GREAT-ER 1.0 Technical Manual
for further information (568 Kb).

Q: How can I make changes in a catchment .dbf file?
A: Changes can be performed using e.g. Excel. Nevertheless, the modified file cannot be saved as .dbf file directly from excel. You first have to save the file as a .txt file. Then, you can convert it using
txt2dbf
. You can download a zip file containing this software by
clicking here
(305 Kb). You have then to extract all the files in the same folder than the .txt file, select
Run
item in the
Start
menu and type txt2dbf C20 C20 C5 v name.txt name.dbf (name being the name of your file). Your file is then converted to the .dbf format.
