Aire Catchment The Aire is a small Yorkshire catchment (1100 km2) with 40 WWTPs serving a population of approximately 1,110,000 inhabitants. The majority of the WWTPs are trickling filter type (year 1999). The Aire has been studied and modeled in great detail as pilot catchment of the GREAT-ER development. Fourteen WWTPs are trickling filter type and the others activated sludge or a combination of the two (year 1999). The Calder has been studied and modeled in great detail as pilot catchment of the GREAT-ER development.
